Money Mentality

17 Money Quotes That Will Change Your Life

I’m officially in the middle of my loan repayment journey. When I graduated college in June 2015, I walked across the stage with over $13,000 of debt. Today, my loans total $5,800, and it feels SO good. In five months, I’ll be debt free.

Along the way, I’ve made some sacrifices, like living without a car, and I’ve also learned what I’m not willing to sacrifice (aka: my $900/month rent payment). But above all, I’ve learned that money is more than numbers and symbols—money is a mindset.

These are the quotes I re-read when saving feels difficult or money feels all-consuming. They’re the sentiments that get me into the mindset of a money champ and I hope they’ll inspire you too.

“Money won’t create success, freedom to make it will.”

— Nelson Mandela

“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.”

— Jim Rohn

“What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play.”

— Julia Cameron

“P.S. The less [money] you need to live off, the less you need to make!”

— J. Money from Budgets Are Sexy

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

— Chinese Proverb

“Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Before you retire, save. Before you die, give.”

— William A. Ward

“Create a life that feels good on the inside. Not one that just looks good on the outside.”

— Unknown

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth: not going all the way, and not starting.”

— Buddha

(Bridget from Money After Graduation)

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

— Steve Jobs

“To say yes, you have to sweat and roll up your sleeves and plunge both hands into life up to the elbows. It is easy to say no.”

— Jean Anouilh

“The best thing money can buy is financial freedom.”

— Rob Berger

“Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing worth knowing can be taught.”

— Oscar Wilde

“Wealth is the ability to truly experience life.”

— Henry David Thoreau

“Never save money to the point of misery or spend to the point of excess. Binging and purging is unhealthy in both eating and spending.”

— Me*

Fantastic quotes! These are all incredibly inspirational. 🙂 I often write down quotes in journals & sticky notes to always reference that inspire me. I especially love the quotes centered on self-education, and Oscar Wilde’s ‘…nothing worth knowing can be taught.’ Mindset & experience, I love this. Thanks for sharing, Taylor!

I am EXACTLY the same! I’m constantly writing down quotes and hanging them around my office, room and bathroom. There’s something about short nuggets of wisdom that can alter your day for the better 🙂 I’m glad you liked the Oscar Wilde one; he’s one of my all-time favorite authors!

Here’s a rhyme that will have you feeling better and busting out of any negative rut you might have been in. The problem with thinking negatively is that it breeds negative thoughts, which end up manifesting as negative actions or events that take place in your life.
